Bay Furniture Travertine Rounded-Rectangle Coffee Table Set with Burl Wood Plinth Base
Bay Furniture Travertine Rounded-Rectangle Coffee Table Set with Burl Wood Plinth Base
This is a two-piece set: a large rounded-rectangle coffee table and a smaller rounded-rectangle side table, both in the same design and the same material combination. The two tables are placed side by side, their tops nearly touching, so that the two surfaces read as a single extended composition from the sofa.
The tabletops are natural travertine in warm ivory and sand tones, with the open pore structure and horizontal flow lines of genuine stone. The outline of each top is a rectangle with very large corner radii — the corners are so generously rounded that the form sits between a rectangle and a superellipse. The edge profile is a thick, smooth chamfer, approximately 3–4cm deep, that catches the light along the full perimeter of each top and gives the stone a substantial, considered presence.
The base of each table is a solid plinth — a wide, low rectangular block with rounded corners, sitting flat on the floor and supporting the stone top from below. The plinth is burl wood — a material formed from the dense, irregular grain that develops in a tree’s growth knot, producing a surface of tightly swirling, interlocking grain patterns that are unique to each piece. The burl surface on these plinths is deep warm brown, with grain that shifts and catches light differently across each face of the block. No two plinths will have the same pattern. The burl wood plinth base is found nowhere else in the Bay Furniture coffee table collection.
Both images show the two tables side by side in a UAE living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, sheer linen curtains, a cream sofa, a jute rug with a dot pattern, and an oak herringbone timber floor. In the first image, the tables are shown empty in morning light. In the second image, a stack of design books, a ceramic mug, and a dried flower arrangement in a ceramic vase sit on the two surfaces, with a green knit throw draped over the sofa behind.
What’s Included
- Large coffee table – Wide rounded-rectangle travertine top on a burl wood plinth base — suited to the centre of a living room seating arrangement
- Small side table – Narrower rounded-rectangle travertine top on a burl wood plinth base — placed beside the large table or used independently
Key Features
- Burl wood plinth base – A solid low rectangular block in burl wood, with tightly swirling interlocking grain unique to each piece — the only burl wood base in the Bay Furniture coffee table collection
- Thick chamfered edge – A 3–4cm deep smooth chamfer along the full perimeter of each travertine top — catches light along the edge and gives the stone a substantial, gallery-like presence
- Rounded-rectangle outline – Very large corner radii on a rectangular form — the outline sits between a rectangle and a superellipse, with no sharp corners anywhere
- Natural travertine tops – Genuine travertine with open pore structure, horizontal flow lines, and warm ivory-to-sand tonal variation — each top has a unique pattern
- Side-by-side composition – The two tables are designed to be placed with their tops nearly touching — the two surfaces read as a single extended composition from the sofa
Styling Notes
The burl wood plinth and the thick chamfered travertine edge suit warm, considered interiors where every material is chosen for its surface quality. The burl grain reads differently in morning light and afternoon light — in direct sun, the swirling pattern is fully visible; in diffuse light, the surface reads as a warm, consistent brown. Style the large table with a stack of design books and a ceramic mug; style the small table with a single dried flower arrangement in a ceramic vase. The two tables side by side work with any sofa from cream to sand to warm grey.
