Bay Furniture Arc-Arm Bouclé Dining Chair with Floating Backrest
Bay Furniture Arc-Arm Bouclé Dining Chair with Floating Backrest
The backrest of this chair floats. It is a self-contained rectangular pad — square-cornered with softened edges, upholstered in cream teddy bouclé with a coarse, chunky loop texture — connected to the seat frame by two slender walnut uprights, with the space between the backrest and the seat left fully open. The backrest sits at mid-back height, low enough to leave the shoulders free and high enough to provide genuine lumbar support.
The armrests are the defining feature of this chair. Each armrest is a single round-section walnut rail — circular in cross-section throughout its length — that curves from the top of the rear leg forward and downward to the front of the seat frame. The curve is smooth and continuous, with no sharp angles or visible joints. The armrest rail is unpadded and unupholstered — it is pure walnut, rounded and smooth, and it sits at exactly the right height for a relaxed arm position. The open space between the armrest rail and the seat frame is fully visible from the front and the side.
The four legs are solid walnut-toned cylinders, consistent in diameter from the floor to the seat frame, rising vertically with no splay. The front legs are connected by a single horizontal stretcher. The frame is deep walnut-toned throughout, with a smooth matte finish. The seat is upholstered in the same cream teddy bouclé as the backrest, square-cornered and generously padded.
The second image is a close-up of the backrest corner in afternoon light — the coarse loop texture of the bouclé is fully visible, and the point where the fabric meets the walnut armrest rail is a clean, precise line.
Key Features
- Floating rectangular backrest – A self-contained upholstered pad connected to the seat frame by two slender walnut uprights — fully open between the backrest and the seat
- Round-section arc armrests – A single circular-section walnut rail curving from the rear leg to the front of the seat frame — unpadded, unupholstered, and smooth throughout its length
- Coarse-loop teddy bouclé – A chunky, textured loop fabric on both the backrest and the seat — more pronounced and tactile than standard bouclé, visible from across the room
- Vertical walnut legs – Four solid walnut-toned cylinder legs with no splay, rising straight from the floor to the seat frame — a stable, grounded stance
- Front stretcher – A single horizontal rail connecting the two front legs at low height — adds structural rigidity without adding visual weight
Styling Notes
The arc armrests and the floating backrest give this chair a strong mid-century Scandinavian identity. It suits minimal interiors with clean lines — concrete or stone floors, cream walls, and very little decoration. The coarse bouclé texture performs best in natural light, where the loop surface catches and shifts with the changing light through the day. Pairs naturally with sintered stone dining tables in warm ivory or near-white, where the dark walnut frame contrasts with the pale stone surface. A single ceramic vase with a dried branch is the natural companion on the table.
