This is not a standard bookshelf. The shelves are there — four of them, in dark-finished metal, running horizontally across the wall. But between the shelves, and resting against them, are a series of solid wood panels in rounded rectangular forms: wide ones, tall ones, narrow ones, a long horizontal one at the base. Each panel is a different size. None of them are square. Together they create a composition on the wall that reads as much as sculpture as storage.

The wood panels serve as visual anchors and dividers — they break the wall into sections, give the shelves a backdrop, and make the objects displayed on them read more clearly. Books, ceramics, plants, and trays all sit differently in front of a warm wood surface than they do against a plain wall.

The metal shelf rails are dark and cylindrical in cross-section, with a slight taper at the ends. The wood is light-toned with a pronounced grain — ash or pine in character — and the rounded corners on every panel are consistent throughout, giving the whole system a coherent visual language despite the variation in size.
