Bay Furniture Fluted Drum Pedestal Sintered Stone Dining Table

The tabletop is a superellipse — a form that sits between a rectangle and an ellipse. The long sides are nearly straight. The corners curve generously, more than a standard rounded rectangle but less than a full oval. The result is a tabletop that reads as soft and organic from the ends and as long and generous from the sides. The surface is warm ivory sintered stone with a natural travertine-like texture and a matte finish.

The base is a single solid drum pedestal, centred beneath the tabletop. The drum is circular in plan and consistent in diameter from top to bottom, with a smooth collar at the crown and a smooth collar at the base. Between the two collars, the entire surface of the drum is covered in vertical fluting — dense parallel channels running from top to bottom, each approximately 1–1.5cm wide, with a depth that creates a strong rhythm of light and shadow across the curved surface. The fluting is finished in deep walnut-toned matte, which absorbs light rather than reflecting it, making the shadow in each channel appear deeper than it is.

The two images show the table in two different rooms: a Scandinavian-influenced dining room with timber floors and a jute rug, and a UAE luxury dining room with marble floors, gold wall trim, and brass planters. The table reads well in both — the fluted drum base is formal enough for the marble room and warm enough for the timber room.

Key Features

  • Superellipse tabletop – A form between rectangle and ellipse — straight long sides with generous corner curves, providing more usable surface area than an oval and a softer silhouette than a rectangle
  • Fluted drum pedestal – Single solid drum base with dense vertical fluting across the full curved surface — the parallel channels create a strong light-and-shadow rhythm that changes as you move around the table
  • Matte walnut finish on base – Deep walnut-toned matte finish that absorbs light and deepens the shadow in each flute channel — a deliberate contrast to the warm ivory stone above
  • Smooth collar details – Plain circular collars at the top and bottom of the drum provide a clean visual boundary for the fluted section
  • Sintered stone surface – Warm ivory with natural travertine-like texture — heat-resistant, scratch-resistant, and consistent across the full surface
  • Seats 6–8 – Two at each end, two to three on each long side — the single central pedestal leaves the floor fully open for seating on all sides

Styling Notes

The fluted drum base suits both formal and relaxed dining rooms. On marble or stone floors, it reads as architectural and ceremonial. On timber floors with a jute rug, it reads as warm and considered. Pair with walnut-framed dining chairs with upholstered seats in grey or charcoal — the dark chair frames echo the walnut base, and the upholstered seats soften the formality of the fluting. A single glass vase with greenery on the stone surface is enough centrepiece.
