The base of this floor lamp is a single piece of solid walnut-toned wood, carved into two broad flat blades that twist around each other continuously from the base to the top. The blades are not separate pieces joined together — they are carved from one block, with the grain running unbroken through every turn of the helix. The result is a double-helix column that reads as sculpture from every angle and as a lamp base from above.

The second image shows the carving in close-up, in raking light. The two blades are wide and flat in cross-section, tapering to a narrow waist where they cross and expanding again as they separate. The walnut grain follows the twist, creating a flame-like pattern on the convex faces of each blade. The concave grooves between the blades catch shadow and deepen the contrast between light and dark surfaces. This is the kind of detail that is only visible up close — and only possible in solid wood.

The shade is a straight-sided drum in cream fabric, sitting on a dark metal fitting at the top of the column. The base is a flat dark metal disc — a deliberate contrast to the warm walnut above it. The lamp is approximately standard floor lamp height, suitable for reading beside a sofa or armchair.
