Bay Furniture Oval-Back T-Arm Bouclé Dining Chair with Walnut Frame
Bay Furniture Oval-Back T-Arm Bouclé Dining Chair with Walnut Frame
The backrest of this chair is a floating oval — a self-contained upholstered pad in cream teddy bouclé, rounded on all sides like a smooth pebble, connected to the seat frame by two slender walnut uprights. The space between the backrest and the seat is fully open. The backrest does not touch the armrests. It sits independently above the seat, held in place by the two uprights alone.
The armrests are the most distinctive feature of this chair. Each armrest is a diagonal walnut rail that rises from the rear leg and angles forward and downward to the front leg. At the end of each armrest — the point where the sitter’s hand rests — a short horizontal cylinder of walnut is mounted perpendicular to the rail, forming a T. The T-end is smooth and rounded, and it sits at exactly the right height for a relaxed arm position. The open space between the armrest rail and the seat frame is fully visible from the front and the side.
The four legs splay outward in all four directions, tapering from a wider section at the top to a narrow point at the floor. The frame is deep walnut-toned throughout, with a smooth matte finish. The seat is upholstered in the same cream teddy bouclé as the backrest, square-cornered and generously padded.
The second image shows the chair beside a round marble dining table in a UAE-influenced Mediterranean interior — arched wall niches, terracotta ceramic vessels, olive branches in a clay pot, a fruit bowl, and a jute rug. The chair’s open frame and the T-end armrests read as light and considered against the warm, layered textures of the room.
Key Features
- Floating oval backrest – A self-contained upholstered oval in cream teddy bouclé, connected to the seat frame by two slender walnut uprights — fully open between the backrest and the seat
- T-end armrests – Diagonal walnut rails with a short horizontal cylinder at the end — the T-form provides a natural hand rest and is the most distinctive detail of this chair
- Open frame structure – The space between the armrest rail and the seat frame, and between the backrest and the seat, is fully open — the chair reads as light from every angle
- Splayed tapered legs – Four deep walnut-toned legs angled outward in all four directions, tapering to a narrow point at the floor
- Cream teddy bouclé upholstery – Short-pile looped fabric on both the oval backrest and the seat — soft to the touch and consistent in colour and texture
Styling Notes
The floating oval backrest and the T-end armrests make this the most mid-century influenced chair in the Bay Furniture dining collection. It suits warm, layered interiors with natural materials — jute rugs, terracotta ceramics, olive branches, and stone or marble dining tables. The open frame keeps the chair visually light in rooms with many textures. Pairs naturally with round or oval dining tables, where the oval backrest echoes the curve of the table edge. A cluster of terracotta vessels and an olive branch arrangement on the table is the natural companion.
